Kon-Tiki 60 Kon-Tiki 60th Anniversary. Click to Embiggen Mahalo to Tiki Chris for reminding me that today is the 60th anniversary of the start of Thor Heyerdahl's epic voyage from Peru to Polynesia on a balsawood raft, named the Kon-Tiki. His theories regarding the East-to-West migration of South Americans to the South Pacific may have been disproven by modern DNA analysis, but the best-selling book and Oscar-winning documentary of Heyerdahl's journey was largely responsible for launching the tiki craze of the 50s and 60s, along with a whole host of knock-off products like the board game pictured above.
