Note the following grant writing opportunities. The workshops are open to
library and city staff. I attended the last offered sessions and felt they were
quite worthwhile. Consider a trip to Des Moines if you do grant writing for
your library and pass the word to your city staff. There were several police
and fire personel at the last sessions. The sessions fill up fast, so act
soon.

Location: All classes will be held in the Grimes State Office Building,
400 East 14th St.
Cost: $40 per course the Grants Enterprise Management Office is
subsidizing a portion of the cost.
To Register: Iowa State Government employees contract your training
liaison.

You will be required to submit a completed registration form. The form can
be found on the GEMS grant site:

Register for the entire series or choose just the courses that will be most
beneficial for you.
Instructor: Lance Noe, Drake University, will be the primary instructor
and determine the course content. Lance is an instructor for the College of
Business and Public Administration and the Educational Coordinator for the
Center for Professional Studies at Drake University.
Course Content: A few of the subject areas that will be covered ar
information about the location of funding sources and the use of electronic
media to find them;
a description of the general grant process with a special focus on how
grants are reviewed;
instruction on how to review an application to determine if it is
appropriate for your agency;
training on the use of 3 planning tools for the creation of effective grant
proposals; information on the budgeting process and how to maximize grant
funding for your project
instruction on how to create an appropriate evaluation plan for your
project;
training on the most effective methods for producing your grant
proposal;
