Even though Alaska Anchorage never had been to the WCHA Final Five, coach John Hill promised the Seawolves would not let the experience overwhelm them.
Instead, they overwhelmed Colorado College in Thursday's play-in game.
The Seawolves got another sensational performance from goalie Chris King and three second-period goals in a 4-1 victory at Xcel Energy Center. They will play top seed North Dakota in today's semifinals.
The play-in triumph marked the third milestone in a week for the Seawolves, who as a No. 8 seed last weekend won their first playoff game and first playoff series in 12 seasons as a league member.
The Tigers outshot the Seawolves 45-18. King gave up the game's first goal to Trevor Frischmon at nine minutes, 21 seconds of the second period, then stopped CC cold.
Freshman Brandon Segal tied the score only 30 seconds later with his first career goal, and Vladimir Novak sent in a rebound at 10:41 to give the Seawolves a lead they never surrendered.
