A NY Times article discusses how students are learning to evade moves to enforce copyright restrictions in educational institutions (by limiting bandwidth, closing ports, etc.). Many institutions are using copyright infractions to teach the students about intellectual property but many more are engaged in battling it more authoritatively. An educator at the School of Information, Univ. of Michigan aptly labels this dilemma facing educational institutions as "enforce" or "educate". Sheldon Steinbach, American Council Education general counsel advises this is the 'teachable moment.' Access to the NY Times site is free but first time registration is required to read the article.
