Here are some pictures showing the conference location - Oslo Spektrum - another of us waiting for King Harald to come and open the Norway National library (new wing and old buidling renovation) - enjoying the music and the open air with a new friend.
The 71st World Library and Information Congress is going on at Oslo, Norway and it is very thrilling to be a part of it. The conference officially began on Sunday with formal Opening Ceremonies at the Oslo Spektrum. I will try to upload some pictures but in the meantime you can view other pics taken by a savvy IFLA volunteer/staff here. The net connectivity at a conference of this stature is very disappointing (its taken me 3 days to get connectivity and that too through my hotel and not the conference). This evening King Harald officially opened (reopened) the new National Biblioteket and we had a party to celebrate it. There must be over 3000 people attending this event and I'm quite taken by the interesting variety (all librarians though despite the emphasis on cultural institutions, archives, and museums). Librarians from all countries and from libraries of all types, national, public, university, and special. I also have met a few US and Canadian LIS faculty some of whom are active on IFLA committees. More later (hopefully). comment []12:02:56 AM
