Microsoft, Five Years After the Anti-Trust Trial
Joseph Nocera, who covered the trial for Fortune, muses on the state of Microsoft,
5 years on. He concludes that although the central
anti-competitive issue was not resolved, Microsoft has been overcome by
bureaucratic sluggishness, and is not as feared as it was. Like
IBM perhaps, which was never the same company after its own tangling
with the US Government and ant-trust. The seeds of its troubles
in the 1990's were planted in the ant-trust days of the 1970's.
