recreation.gov
The new recreation.gov portal will be unveiled in Salt Lake City this Saturday.  Here's a good article on the technology behind it.

Sandy City Hacked

I discovered this morning that Sandy City's website was hacked recently.  It won't be fully restored until October 1st.  Sandy is the fourth largest city in Utah (according to the 2000 census - 88,418 people).  Cities need to be involved in our security initiatives, especially as the state continues to partner with them to put services online (such as the one-stop business registration).  Security failures in online city and county systems will affect the trust level that citizens have in the state's online services as well.  This is one reason why am pushing to make the intergovernmental IT council and the local Infragard chapter more effective organizations.

Webcams

There are a growing number of live webcams around the state.  Here's one looking at Y Mountain down in Provo. With all the construction here on Capitol here, we have 4 webcams that you can use to monitor progress.  And it looks like we're making progress with construction of the Eccles Performing Arts Center down at Snow College.  At times, it would be nice to check in on all our construction this way.

Here's a streaming cam from South Ogden.

Aside: Suzzallo Library, where I spent much of my time as a grad student just reopened.  Here's a live shot of Red Square, the heart of the University of Washington campus.
