National Cybersecurity Strategy

The Bush administration will release the National Strategy for Protecting Cyberspace on September 11th.  The strategy document will companion the National Homeland Security Strategy that was released on Tuesday.  According to that document:

There is a vital need for cooperation between the federal government and state and local governments on a scale never before seen in the United States. Cooperation must occur both horizontally (within each level of government) and vertically (among various levels of government).

The National Strategy for Protecting Cyberspace will focus on four areas:

  • home users and small businesses
  • major enterprise networks
  • economic sectors, such as government, financial services and transportation
  • national and global issues.

Of those, the most critical are numbers 2 and 3 which focus on protection of critical infrastructure.  It will be announced in Silicon Valley.  I imagine that there will be an endless number of things going on that day, so I imagine the press will not really be focused on this event.  The release will certainly make it a timely piece for our next meeting of the Infragard of the Wasatch, which will also be held in September.
