The Utah Arts Council's Folk Arts Program's annual Mondays in the Park Concert Series continues August 18 with Michael Robinson and the Prairie Crooners, celebrating traditions of the rural West with cowboy poetry and song. Known as Utah's "Millennial Cowboy," Michael Robinson recites and sings his own compositions, and the Prairie Crooners harmonize to many of the best-loved cowboy songs that have been favorites for generations. Concerts are free to the public and begin at 7:00 pm every Monday through August 25 at the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts, located in the center of Salt Lake City's Liberty Park.
This year's season includes eight performances and features Native American, Hispanic, Asian, African, Polynesian and Bosnian dance, as well as traditional western cowboy poetry and song. [The remaining concert schedule appears below.]
Since 1987, the Utah Arts Council's Folk Arts Program has hosted free summer concerts of folk music and ethnic dance at the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts in Liberty Park. This year's concerts are presented by the Utah Arts Council and sponsored by Target and Mervyn's, KUED 7 and KRCL 90.9 FM. For more information, contact the Folk Arts Program at (801) 533-5760.

Attorney General Mark Shurtleff answered constitutional and legal questions today about the succession of power if Governor Leavitt were to resign. Shurtleff found that the Lt. Governor would not merely serve as an "Acting Governor" for the duration of her term but would become the Governor, with full authority and title of that office. This includes the power to appoint a new Lt. Governor. The Utah Supreme Court and State Constitution instruct that her appointee must be of the same political party and that Senate confirmation would not be required. Governor Leavitt and Lt. Governor Walker received the opinion Monday morning.
The complete opinion is available to the public at http://attorneygeneral.utah.gov/Opinions_AttorneyGeneral/agop03001.htm
