On August 20th, Jobs.utah.gov reached a major landmark, having assisted in 1,000,000 employment self-referrals. 154,793 job referrals were made through the online service in the month of July alone. That amounted to 67% of the total referrals for that month.
Workforce Services (DWS) Information Technology Director Greg Gardner, speaking at the Western CIO Summit in Park City, said that the Department is now reviewing its business practices to explore any potential changes that need to be done in the way the Department does business. While traditional services have been provided only during the normal 5-day week, customers now obtain an average of 1,000 referrals a day on weekends and holidays.
In addition to online job referals, DWS is also setting standards in other online services such as unemployment taxes. 8,290 employers filed their unemployment taxes online in the most recent quarter. This represents 15% of all employers and an increase of 1,000 from the previous quarter. The new unemployment claim service which was first made available in June of this year now processes 16% of all unemployment claims.
