Fire restrictions still in place in the northern portion of the state are rescinded as of 12:01 a.m., Wednesday, September 10, 2003. Cooler temperatures and increased moisture continue to reduce the threat of wildland fire. With this action all fire restrictions have been lifted throughout the state. However, fire officials remind you to continue to exercise caution in all outdoor activities. While fire danger is not high, many areas of the state remain susceptible to wildland fire.
"We thank the public for their cooperation, without their support our wildland fire season could have been much worse," said State Forester Joel Frandsen. "On behalf of all state and federal agencies we want to express our appreciation for their assistance in abiding with these restrictions."
Fire restrictions have been in place since early July and due to Utah’s prolonged drought all the elements of an extreme fire season were in place very early. However, preliminary figures for 2003 indicate what could have been our worst fire year on record could instead be termed moderate.
