One time I was hiking off trail and found an amazing viewpoint, so I set up my gear to shoot a panorama. The camera was empty so I opened my film bag up, grabbed a fresh Kodak Supra 400 out of its plastic holder and went to pull out the leader from the roll and the film would not budge. I looked at it more closely and noticed the can was crushed in on the backside. The only things I could think of which could have caused that is ducking under some fallen trees (my pack usually scrapes against the tree pretty good), or falling down. It must have taken a lot of force to squash a metal film can through the plastic holder. Out of hundreds or thousands of times out in the wilderness, crushed film only happened once.

But hey, I'm one of the three remaining people who still shoot film. These days people tell stories about how their compactflash card fell in the mud. And that's an expensive story.

Purpose
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
