The World Wide Panorama is the closest thing that exists to a listing of everyone currently involved with VR photography.

Not on that list? You can be. If you have taken even one VR panorama that you are proud of in the last year you should submit it to the World Wide Panorama by December 28.

Participation gives you a chance to have your name, company name, web site, and e-mail listed on a highly ranked and widely linked site. You will appear as a dot on the world map (and on Google Earth) and may be featured as the Panorama of the Day (with an RSS feed). This helps bring traffic to your site, customers to your business, and enhances your Google ranking.

In addition to the personal fame and glory, the entire field of VR photography will benefit. We all know how great this technology is, but most of the world doesn't. Help us spread the word - send us your best of 2005.

Apple has just released an update to its Aperture digital photography application, which I wrote about last week in a Macworld 'First Look.'

Apple Aperture 1.0 Review at Creative Pro: "Creative Pro Reviews Apple's Aperture 1.0 and writes - 'You'll most likely develop a love/hate relationship with Aperture. The fact is, it's really fun to use. Or at least, it is unless an image doesn't convert well. And it's not so fun when too many edits bring your Mac to its knees. Nevertheless, for a version 1.0 product, the program has a stunning array of features, a very well-designed interface, and some breakthrough comparing and sorting tools. I recommend..."

You may not realize it, but your digital camera doesn't give you every pixel that it records.

In most cases this is because the manufacturer masks off pixels at the very edges of the frame. This is done for a couple of technical reasons. ...

Solving a problem that few people knew even existed, Thomas Knoll, one of the original authors of Photoshop, and the creator of Adobe's Camera Raw, has written a free utility program which recovers all of the pixels that any supported digital camera records, whether it's hidden edges or intentionally cropped formats.

Called DNG Recover Edges, this small utility is available for both Windows PCs and Macs.

Purpose
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
