League of Women Voters website

I just checked out the League of Women Voter's webpage. I wasn't sure there'd be much for me, but I was surprised at all the good info -- almost too much info. Especially informative are the articles on this page. I've never seen a write up on How to Pick a Candidate before. Very nice. Thanks again to Ernie for the link.

As an aside: I must admit I'm still not sure what Women's Issues exactly are; I'm married to a woman, I have a mother and a sister, as well as friends who are women. Don't issues that affect them also affect me? After all, I'm all for Women's Health: who's going to cook my dinner, feed the fish, and do my laundry if my wife gets sick? ;)

Vote Smart

I got motivated tonight and wrote up a little info on voter awareness. It's somewhat NH-centric, but there's a couple of pointers to good websites in there. (Thanks to Ernie for the link to Project Vote Smart.)

And the pollsters decide to put me on their blacklist

I answered the phone survey a couple of weeks ago. My responses were probably thrown out. (I'm an "outlier".)

Pollster: What is your opinion of (several political candidates in NH)... ? (very) favorable, neutral, or unfavorable were the possible responses.
Pollster: Jeanne Shaheen
Me: unfavorable
Pollster: Craig Benson
Me: That *expletive*? Oh, sorry, I mean "very unfavorable".
Pollster: John Sununu
Me: (*sigh*) very unfavorable
(And on we went. I think the polltaker was mildly amused.)
Me: Are these all going to be politicians? Because I don't like any of them. How about somebody cool, like Stephen Hawking, Jimmy Carter -- he doesn't count as a politician, or even Elvis?

Pollster: What is your opinion of the way George Bush is running the country (or some similar question)?
Me: We're going to hell in a handbasket, and he's leading the march. I'm sorry, what were my choices again?
