At risk of sounding like marketing, everything in .NET seems easier. It's still quite daunting but I'm really enjoying a more sophisticated set of collection classes and more facility with the XML end of things. I'm porting a desktop RSS Aggregator I originally wrote in VB6 to VB.NET.
Documentation is much better with .NET as well. .NET 24/7 is a pretty good resource. I'm still looking for a nice class browser in .NET, ala the Javadoc APIs that Sun provided. Okay, never mind (I found one). It still isn't as good as the Java one, IMHO.
Another good resource is Ed Tanguay's Web Developer resources. Seems like an interesting guy this Ed, there is a book club website as well with more than 80 titles.
Speaking of reading, I'm still engulfed in Zadie Smith's White Teeth. It is highly recommended - every time I remember that she wrote it when she was ~19 I feel small. All I could think of at that age was basketball. Sigh.
