Heavy Weather
On Friday I ran outside in rain. It was heavenly.
I've been given a nickname: Smeagolange. I think the picture makes me look like a charred Yeti.
This weekend I will be going to the L.A. Festival of Books. I'm hoping against hope that I make it to see Christopher Hitchens in person on Saturday.
I was prompted by an article in Fast Company to think about courage. I've wanted to write about it but things keep popping up.
I also wanted to write about the new Matrix. Neal Stephenson describes in Snow Crash how every guy imagines they can be a badass until about 30 (or so). Equipped with the right training, the right circumstances, we think to ourselves, I could be a badass. And of course when watching The Matrix one imagines the badass they would be is Neo. Flying through the air, fighting 100 agents, bending the fabric of the universe - let's just set aside the philosophy, the love stories, the special effects and the cool clothing. Well, not the cool clothing; imagining oneself as a badass must be accompanied by appropriate attire and as much as we would want to swing from city buildings (think Spiderman), drive cool gadgety cars (think batman), or destroy things in fits (think Hulk), being green (think Hulk), wearing a mask with a pointed nose and perked fake ears (think Batman), or a full body leotard (think Spidey) tends to break one's concentration. The leather jackets, trenchcoats, designer suits with waistcoats - those are condusive to a good daydream or two.
Back to the busy, I'm being asked questions...
