She Plays For Herself

I watched The Pianist a week ago.  I thought it was excellent.  Every time I watch someone gifted play piano I think to myself that if I could play I wouldn't need an audience.  It would be enough to play piano just for myself.

I read somewhere that the piano was a percussion instrument.  Markus (who is quite a pianist himself) agreed at least in part to this.  But I don't understand how something like Chopin could be described more as percussion than melody.

I will never forget, however, that once many moons ago I saw a Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba at a place called The Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood.  His hands moved so fast and with such rhythmic force that one could not deny that the piano was, for him at least, a drum as well.

A friend of mine also plays piano though you wouldn't know it (she doesn't really force it on anyone).  But she plays for herself, not for others, just as I would if I could.
