The elective list for Period 5 was just released. I find the following courses interesting:
- Management Decision Making - "the psychology of decision making". From the course description: "Even if you are completely rational yourself and require no tutoring whatsoever (there are always a few people who think this of themselves), you will still find this course useful."
- Models for Strategic Planning - "how to be an Excel jockey for fun and profit". The course covers optimization tools (Excel Solver), decision analysis, and simulation tools (Crystal Ball), from a managerial perspective.
- Advanced Game Theory - this looks juicy: collusion by Cournot duopolists, games of incomplete information, signalling games, profit sharing among business partners.
- Financial Statement Analysis - taught by a new professor (Steve Monahan) who was recruited by our excellent Managerial Accounting & Control professor Igor Vaysman, hopefully this will give students the ability to understand financial statements. Sadly, this is something that our P1 accounting course skipped... but kudos to Steve, Igor, and the rest of the organization for rallying with this course.
Only three courses are necessary, but if time permits I might try all four...
