A Michigan congressman, Democrat Bart Stupak, is one of eight MCs and Senators who are living in a "million-dollar Capitol Hill townhouse" said to be owned by a Christian foundation, described by the Tennessean as a "secretive religious organization".  Each of the MCs is paying $600 per month, a rent which appears to be less than half of the market value for that area of Washington.

The article raises all kinds of suggestions that the organization is trying to influence the legislators by holding "receptions, luncheons and prayer meetings" on the first floor, and by sponsoring a weekly joint dinner and Bible study.  It darkly notes that all eight "are Christians".  Never mind that nearly 100% of the non-Jewish membership of the House and Senate call themselves Christians, regardless of their true position on religion.  (When did you last hear any politician say "I don't give a fig about religion"?)

What has not been raised yet is this question:  How many other members of the House and of the Senate are living in homes that are subsidized in one way or the other?  How many such homes are subsidized by groups with, let us say, more of a secular orientation?
