A 17-year-old who put an offensive note in his checked baggage -- "Fuck you.  Stay the fuck out of my bag, cocksucker.  Have you found a fucking bomb yet? No, just clothes. Am I right? Yea, so fuck you." -- was detained at Boston's Logan Airport and then charged under phony "bomb threat" charges.  He is charged with a felony for leaving a note that offended our TSA guardians.
Ann E. Davis, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration, is quoted in the article as saying, "But when [we] see the word 'bomb', we take it very seriously. In today's security environment, there's no room for that sort of joking."
A representative of the District Attorney's office is quoted: "Putting a false bomb threat in your luggage is not something we take lightly. In the current climate, it's just unacceptable because of the fear and panic it causes." (Source - Boston Globe; pointer by boing boing.)
Both of these people are missing the point.  There was no joke involved.  The note was a political statement, and it made nothing even close to a bomb threat.
We need a volunteer to defend this kid.
