I came across a weblog post which repeated the commonly-made error that "Wi-Fi" is short for "wireless fidelity".  I thought of writing the author to point out his mistake.  In search of a web site which would make that point, I did a Google search ("wi-fi" and "fidelity" and "not") and came across page after page of positive hits, representing scores of entries saying in various ways that "Wi-Fi" is short for "wireless fidelity", and, interestingly, nothing to the contrary.

So I give up.  Wi-Fi is, by God, short for wireless fidelity, by sheer brunt of repetition and mass acceptance.  The smart man does not try to command the waves.  When one hits, he must surf.
