PowerBook, iBook nominated for Linux hardware award. The PowerBook and iBook have been nominated in the Best Linux Hardware category of the UK LinuxUser & Developer Awards. They're competing against the SGI Altrix 3000 (a family of clusters and superclusters) and the Xinit Sharq SPS440 (an enterprise-class SCSI-based server). Winners will be named at the awards ceremony on June 24, which kicks off the LinuxUser & Developer Expo. The expo runs June 24-26 in Birmingham. [MacCentral]

Mac G5: Too Little, Too Late. As rumors go, this one is pretty sweet. In late June, at Apple's Development Conference, the company will provide a preview release of Panther, its next generation OS X operating system. The Panther sneak preview is no big deal, but the machine they'll use to demonstrate the new OS will be pretty hot: the new G5 processor. [osOpinion]
