WWDC: Apple releases Safari 1.0. During his Worldwide Developers Conference keynote, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that Apple would make the final version of its Safari Web browser available for download Monday. It's available for download from Apple's Web site and through the Software Update System Preferences pane. Jobs told the assembled developers that Safari has seen over five million downloads of the beta versions in the past six months; version 1.0 will be the default browser for the new Power Mac G5s coming in August. Also, Apple released a Safari SDK (Software Developer Kit), so that developers can embed the browser's HTML rendering engine directly into their applications. [MacCentral]

WWDC: Apple previews Mac OS X 'Panther'. During his WWDC 2003 keynote address on Monday, Apple CEO Steve Jobs gave a detailed presentation of what's to come in Panther, the next major revision of Mac OS X. The release is due out before the end of the year and sports more than 100 new features; it will cost US$129. Highlights of the new operating system version include a revamped Finder interface that Jobs describes as "user-centric." The interface puts user's favorite folders, hard drive, network servers, iDisk and removable media into a single location that Jobs likened to the playlist used by iTunes. [MacCentral]

More than meets the eye!. Can Optimus Prime be far behind? Xerox PARC's experimental, modular robots look like nothing so much as a pile of random MECCANO--until you see them in action. Watch one robot transform from a loop, to a snake, to a spider configuration! Or play with the Java simulator. [via Boing Boing] [MetaFilter]
