The New York Times reports on the tension between the founders of Google and its venture capitalist backers (registration required) regarding the fact and timing of an initial public offering. It's fair to assert that Google should pursue a course that offers its investors a fair return on its capital, but is Google under any obligation to be the savior of the venture capital industry? Does Google really owe its investors an 800-fold return on a $25 million investment?
