Rakesh at the Identity Centric Architecture blog says that
"an Identity (system) acts as the eigenvector (An eigenvector of a linear transformation is a vector that is either left unaffected or simply multiplied by a scale factor after the transformation (the former corresponds to a scale factor of 1) for Security as a property. http://identity-centric-architecture.blogspot.com/2007/02/aligning-efforts-of-cio-cso-and-cpo.html
An eigenvector! Mention of eigenvectors brings me right back to days spent in the Hamilton Building in Trinity College fifteen years ago, drinking very poor coffee and studying the 131 Mathematical Methods course . It's a neat way to discuss how identity can overlay onto existing security architecture and methodology, but I'd worry that introducing the concept of the eigenvector to the already jargon-heavy worlds of security and identity might be counterproductive.
A quick search shows that the concept of an eigenvector is now finding its way into MBA-type business discussion. What next - saddle points and triple derivatives?
