Via Todd Biske's blog, some big news today: - More Consolidation: Cisco to Acquire Reactivity for $135m.

Congratulations to the guys at Reactivity! Although Reactivity are direct competitors to Vordel, it's still good to see Cisco realize that routing, security, traffic management, and monitoring are all moving up into data. IBM were able to steal a march on the other platform vendors when they bought Datapower. Now Cisco have an answer. They can't have been pleased to see IBM get footholds into message level routing infrastructure all over the place.

The key thing here is that once an XML Gateway is in place, it becomes the control point for application-level integration. It's where the services are effectively registered, where routing and traffic management happens, where policies are enforced, where usage metrics are gathered. Cisco realized this, and paid $135m for it.
