Booksfree.com:

"Roxanne Volkmann, who describes herself as addicted to mysteries, reads an average of six books a month. At $5.95 per paperback, the cost of that addiction can add up."

"But Volkmann has found a particularly frugal way of feeding her habit: She orders books online from Booksfree.com, receives them by mail, and drops them in an envelope and sends them back when she's done. All in all, her membership costs $9 a month." from The Washington Post via Library Stuff - Updated daily by Steven M. Cohen.

One of the featured sections of the Booksfree site is a "Compare the Value" section, which compares the value of Booksfree.com to libraries, physical bookstores, and electronic retailers.  What do you think of this new business?

On the Frontlines Conference 2003:

"The Illinois State Library's "On the Front Lines" conference will be held from Monday, March 17 through Wednesday, March 19, 2003 on the campus of the University of Illinois at Springfield. This will be the fifth statewide conference for "front line" library practitioners. The conference is geared towards reference, interlibrary loan, collection development and technical services staff at all types of libraries. The Illinois OCLC Users' Group (IOUG) will once again sponsor the popular Chocolate Reception at the conference.

Information will be available in several months regarding the programs and speakers. Recommendations for speakers and/or topics are welcomed by the planning committee. Please submit your ideas to Kathleen Bloomberg at the Illinois State Library, (217) 785-0052 or kbloomberg@ilsos.net <mailto:kbloomberg@ilsos.net>. "
