Museums for America is the largest grant program for museums at IMLS. The agency expects to award over $15 million in grants to support the role of museums in American society:
* Sustaining cultural heritage
* Supporting lifelong learning
* Serving as centers of community engagement
Grant amounts range from $5,000 to $150,000 and require a 1:1 match. Grants strengthen the ability of museums to serve the public more effectively by supporting high priority activities that advance the institution's mission and strategic goals.
Museums for America grants are designed to be flexible. They can fund ongoing museum activities; improvement of institutional infrastructure; planning; new programs or activities; purchase of equipment or services; research and scholarship; or efforts of museums to upgrade and integrate new technologies into their overall institutional effectiveness.
