[ISL-Announce] Training Dates and Locations for Library U Reloaded module development

This year, the Illinois State Library received a grant from the Gates Foundation to enhance and widen the impact of the original LibraryU web site into a statewide training model. The original LibraryU was an LSTA funded pilot project developed by a number of Illinois Library systems to provide free web based training to Illinois librarians 24/7. We have named this new initiative "LibraryU Reloaded". We are developing LibraryU Reloaded in part because librarians continue to request more web based training that can be accessed anytime, anywhere. Web based training offers a convenient and less costly alternative to traveling to other locations for continuing education. Technology skills continue to play an important role in the library profession, and web based training is a logical way to master those skills. Well trained and educated librarians results in improved library service for patrons. The first step on our path to developing LibraryU Reloaded will be the creation of course modules. In January, workshops will be held throughout the state that will introduce you to the new authoring software, give you tips on how to design web based training, and familiarize you with the process of submitting a topic for development. We will provide a step by step process (recipe) for creating a web based training module from scratch. We'll cover such ingredients as defining learning objectives, organizing your material into logical learning units, how to create learning activities that will help to reinforce your materials, and how to put it all together using the authoring software (IntraLearn). Your attendance at one of these training sessions does not mean that you are required to develop a module. Here are the dates and locations for training:

DATE LOCATION

January 6 West Frankfort Public Library
January 7 Edwardsville Public Library

anuary 8 Lincoln Trail Libraries System
January 9 Decatur Public Library
January 14 East Moline Public Library
