RSS is great ... so what's next?. RSS demonstrates the power of a widely adopted standard for sharing semantic data. Is there a standard lurking in the wings with the potential to spread as rapidly? [Meerkat: An Open Wire Service: O'Reilly Weblogs]

Using RSS to diffuse calendaring information would really be a killer application. No more people ping ponging e-mails to each other to inform about schedule changes. Instead one just subscribe to the calendar of somebody else.

Saudi reformers recoup after blow. Saudi authorities released five of a dozen detained activists, after they agreed to cease political activities. [Christian Science Monitor | World]

BitTorrent and Broadcatching. Ernest Miller has had a series of posts on the topic of "broadcatching", using an RSS feed to announce new BitTorrent releases of video or other content. Recently he pointed to an article on Techdirt complaining about the mainstream press misunderstanding BitTorrent. I'd say it's Techdirt, and just about everyone else who's caught up in this broadcatching craze, who misses the point about BitTorrent. BT differs from other P2P systems in the algorithm... [Unlimited Freedom]

This could be a perfect way to distribute software. It could be even more useful when combined with CVS.
