Game Wrapup

The Springfield Cardinals won 8 - 7 after a great 8th inning. The Frisco Roughriders really lost it at that point allowing the tying and winning runs to score on errors. To add insult to injury, Cal Eldred came in at the top of the 7th to shut them down.

At the end of the game, I got lucky. My free t-shirt (tossed to me as a promo) was signed by Cal--take a look at the photo. Cal was gracious and all smiles, making the Springfield crowd happy with loads of autographs and handshakes. He's down here (only a three hour drive from St. Louis) rehabbing an injury.

As soon as I got out of the ballpark, I called my brother-in-law Blair Smith, a sports fan for sure, and relayed the story to him. He made sure to mention that Cal was a product of the University of Iowa and still a big financial contributor. A class act and role model for baseball fans everywhere.

I'm not old, I'm 35

My birthday was Monday and I'm now 35 years old. While not a "zero birthday" I still see it as a milestone. I've hit a significant maturity milestone in my life with hopefully many more to come.

My wife threw me a birthday party on a week ago today, inviting close friends for barbecue and beer. She made the wise choice to not cook, allowing everyone to have fun and relax. I had spent the entire afternoon working in the yard, watering, mulching and trimming so the house looked great.

Pictures were taken (not by me, natch) of the fesitivities. Here's the flickr link.
