Security Research Suggests Linux Has Fewer Flaws: "The Linux operating system has far fewer flaws than average commercial software, concludes a Dec. 14 report from Coverity. The report is the end result of a four-year project that uncovered 985 bugs in the 5.7 million lines of code comprising Linux kernel version 2.6. Carnegie Mellon University estimates cited in an April report from the National Cybersecurity Partnership's Working Group on the Software Lifecycle indicate that a similarly-sized commercial program contains between 5,700 and 40,000 bugs, approximately."
