Flying start for the iPhone -- Comment() Preliminary reports suggest that the iPhone launch was a success for Apple. According to CNET, Piper Jaffray estimates that 500,000 iPhones sold over the weekend. This would be huge. Can Apple keep up with the demand?

Digital SLRs and the availability of lenses -- Comment() I have been discussing digital SLRs and the availability of good lenses with Sven, especially related to the new Pentax K100D super. Pentax has the advantage of being compatible with virtually all Pentax lenses ever made, so there are a lot of choices. I have an old Minolta XG-1, but unfortunately there are no digital SLRs compatible with the lenses I have, for example a 1.8 aperture 50 mm lens. When I bought a Minolta XG 1 in 1980 (or 1981?), my two other choices were Canon AE-1 and Pentax MV1. I wanted to have an aperture-priority mode in the camera, and the price of XG 1 was within reach of my budget (I was 15 years old then), the other two cameras were more expensive with a basic lens. I believe Minolta XG 1 was quite a success, as was Canon AE-1, but of Pentax MV1 I'm not so sure. Probably not a great success. Of Pentax I have no personal experience, but my impresion is that Pentax have always been an engineering-driven company. Their cameras often have strange quirks from the photographer's viewpoint, but every once in a while they manage to bring examplary cameras to market. I think K100D Super is such a camera.

Adding copy and paste to iPhone -- Comment() One of the missing features on the iPhone is a clipboard. There is an interesting discussion on how to add a clipboard to the iPhone at Kottke.org.
