At 6 megapixels there is a calculation for the optimal number of megapixels for different size sensors, for sensitivies above ISO 400. For 1/1.8 inch sensor the count is 4 megapixels. It so happens that my Canon Digital Ixus 400 has 4 megapixels - an optimal camera? Well, it is five years old and has had a lot of use, so perhaps there are better alternatives nowadays. At least it is to be hoped so.
