99 and 44/100 percent pure? 1:11:50 PM
Don talks up the SOAP 1.2 PR. A few comments on his comments:
- Another diff from 1.1 : the new version of the MustUnderstand fault includes "NotUnderstood" header blocks which are used to indicate just what exactly wasn't understood. This can be pretty key for dynamic negotiations between nodes.
- Just to be crystal clear, the relay attribute only affects headers targeted at the intermediary in question - so an intermediary with role "urn:role1" would pass through headers targeted at "urn:role2" regardless of the setting of the MU or the relay attribute.
- Another diff : the binding framework is much more clear about what a SOAP binding is, and how to describe one in a specification. 1.1 had the HTTP binding built in as an example, but no guidelines as to how to define alternates.
- Another diff : the new, more explicit processing model clears up a lot of ambiguities from the 1.1 version WRT header processing.
- Another diff : there is more structure for doing RPC in SOAP, in particular better faults and explicit markup indicating RPC return values. (I can understand why Don, a die-hard doc-head, didn't mention this part :))
It's been a long and twisty road indeed, but I think the new version is a big step forward. Axis implements almost all of it.
Now if we can just get certain other specs to completion as well....
