Newest music is some of the oldest music. For our anniversary, Kathy got me a book "There Is No Eye: Music for Photographs" and CD with 23 songs photographed and compiled by John Cohen. The two together are a treasure trove of music and musician photos from the roots of American music. Follow this link -- http://www.folkways.si.edu/40091pr.htm --to the Smithsonian Folkways article about the CD. Or take a side trip, http://www.johncohenworks.com/home.html to learn more about John Cohen and his works.
He was a contemporary of Alan Lomax who spent over six decades recording the music of the people throughout the entire world. In fact one of the songs on Cohen's CD is a song by Alan Lomax.
What a wonderful gift. I am excited by the music and the history captured in the photos. Check out the websites.
