UNA-USA update

While The Independent is probably being used as the lobbying arm of some muckity mucks in the EU, I thought I should throw this in -- from a financial appeal letter I just received Saturday from The United Nations Association of the USA.  The Co-Chairs of this organization are Jimmy Carter and Gerald R. Ford.

"At last June's National Convention, UNA-USA...Called on the United States Government to reach agreement with the other U.N. Security Council members to enlarge the scope of the U.N.'s work in Iraq."

EU Chief: US Has Agreed to Int'l Control of Its Troops in Iraq

(from The Independent - 17 November 2003)

"The United States accepts that to avoid humiliating failure in Iraq it needs to bring its forces quickly under international control and speed the handover of power, Javier Solana, the European Union foreign policy chief, has said. Decisions along these lines will be made in the "coming days", Mr Solana told The Independent."

Now since I do not see details of this development posted on yahoo.news, msnbc or cnn, The Independent must be speaking out of turn.  However, this development, if true, is in lines with predictions from those that believe that the Iraq debacle is nothing more than an exercise to empower world government.

(from The New American - 30 June 2003)

Grigg warned that the protracted occupation of Iraq would result in "a steady and worsening hemorrhage of national power, wealth, and prestige," leading to a situation in which "American servicemen and their families, weary of the burden of empire, would eagerly embrace transferring that burden to the UN"

(For the curious, this may beg the question on the relationship of Solana's NATO and the UN.  The John Birch Society has an answer to this as well.)
