Truth and Reconciliation Commission Why I think the fix is in for our former local chapter of the CWP. 1) From the official TRC of South Africa website: "The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was set up by the Government of National Unity..." 2) (From Wikipedia): African National Congress (ANC) is a centre-left political party, and has been South Africa's governing party supported by a tripartite alliance between itself, the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the South African Communist Party (SACP) since the establishment of majority rule in May 1994. 3) From the South African Communist Party website:
"As our former President (of South Africa), Nelson Mandela, said in his Rivonia trial speech, that at a time when the majority of the white population turned their backs away from a free South Africa, it was the communists, including white communists, who stood firmly behind the liberation of the African people. It was also for this reason that President Mandela refused to break the Alliance with the communists throughout his leadership of the ANC and the country."
Now, why should anyone be surprised that Greensboro's Truth&Rec Committee had difficulty gaining credibilty across a broader spectrum of informed members of the community? |
