Thinking about software

From “It’s about time!” department:

AOL Time Warner and Microsoft Agree to Collaborate on Digital Media Initiatives and Settle Pending Litigation

Key takeaways:

- AOL will use Windows Media for the next 7 years.

- AOL gets full access to Windows source code (and $750M)

- And my personal favorite: “The two companies have agreed to explore ways to establish interoperability between AOL and MSN Instant Messenger networks in a manner that will protect consumer privacy, security and network performance.” Notice carefully crafted language though. They haven’t agreed to establish interoperability between their networks. They have agreed to “explore ways” to do so.
