A picture named American.jpgThe Emigrants. Wow. Do you have a few hours to spare? Then check out The Ships List. A very fascinating website about the immigration to The New World with lots of documents, like Ship Descriptions, Passenger Lists, Diaries and Journals, Ship Wrecks and much, much more. Can't help it - I like stuff like that.

TheShipsList website was first established in August 1999, to help those seeking the details of their ancestors' ships; passenger records; contemporary immigration reports; newspaper records; ship wreck information; ship pictures &c. We quickly outgrew our "personal" webspace and so registered our own domain in May 2000. Since then we have grown to about 1000 totally free access web-pages [...]

I actually found the URL in the 'Sources and Acknowledgements' section of Joseph O'Connor's novel Star of the Sea, a highly recommendable book.

A picture named handset.jpgHot Metal. Ok, the website of the Melbourne Museum of Printing is ugly and chaotic. But hidden under this layer of ugliness are the most amazing documents and pictures of old type, machines and a glossary of typography. Enjoy.
