Drama Queens
Ed Cone has a column in the News & Record today which expresses my sentiments exactly about Commissioner Yow's recent publicity stunts. Yow row strengthens Alston, hurts GOP
Speaking of Commissioners, I find it highly amusing and hypocritical when Steve Arnold pretends so hard to be fiscally conservative, and yet at times votes for more spending himself. Arnold has no room to talk and complain about other Commissioners if he doesn't examine his own actions.
Case in point: program for road signs telling drivers to "share the road" with motorcyclists. Have the unique NC signs that say, "Bridge freezes before road" saved any lives? It's hard to tell. Is NC educating their drivers in the first place?
He also had a different take on the Lifestyles building issue than Rakestraw, voting to accept a contract that he hadn't even read.
Spread Cheer, not Fear
I've determined that my life's work should be to help others feel good about themselves (the opposite aim of some people), although that work could take on different forms. Currently I’m supporting local music through music reviews and spreading cheer by raising donations for the MS Society.
In college, I'm still pursuing general college courses, but my aim is to make enough to own my own business someday. I want to at least own a bar where musicians and visual artists can express themselves. Entertainment adds a lot of richness and quality to the lives of the audience and performers alike.
I've considered studying nutrition and fitness, as one of my starry-eyed dreams is to become an accomplished fitness or bodybuilding contestant. However, my age of 28 years and my current lack of a regular exercise routine makes that impossible right now. Besides, I know those women spend a lot of their day in the gym, which would seem impossible for me based on my schedule, unless I owned a gym. Which could be a pretty lucrative endeavor.
But no matter, what, I don't plan to blame others for my physical shape or let myself get to the point where I waste away. I'd like to encourage others to live up to their full potential, because I see so many people who underestimate themselves. Perhaps they lack motivation, or discipline.
Christine Navarro, a yoga teacher at the Charlotte Yoga center is an inspiration. She is also the talented lead singer for the wonderful band Etheric. My review of their November performance albeit several months later, is in the works.
If I went into physiology that would be quite a long road-I am not sure if that will help me save money fast enough for the club.
I need a career that will allow me to encourage others while earning enough to pursue the club idea. A club/bar with plenty of non-flammable sound proofing, a sprinker system, plenty of exits, and vents that suck up cigarette smoke. A club that even my husband would like to go to, and plenty of safety features to prevent tragedies like the recent one in Rhode Island.
My husband Eric has suggested the paralegal program at CPCC (since it apprears we may be moving this summer), which could give me a better feel for the law profession. Law itself sounds somewhat boring, although it does have its uses. Rhetoric, writing, and debate are skills I do wish to improve upon.
Eric wants to be a writer of fiction, though that road is long and hard, especially if you are trying to become a published author. But like many worthwhile pursuits, we can work on them while working during the day as something else.
Stephen King worked as an English schoolteacher during all those rejections from publishers. If you really want something, you’ve got to work for it. Although making a living at the same time is quite challenging. Visual art is much the same way. I have no illusions about living off sales of my acrylic paintings. First of all, I don't have the time right now to promote my work.
Today my name is in print, although blended in with other student names in People & Places under GTCC Dean’s List, High Point.
Writers, artists, musicians, instructors, physiologists, charity volunteers, and people who fall into the category of: people who help others and make people think have my highest respect. Especially those who are good at it.
