Why I'm Not Running (for office) This Year
1) I don't have the time to run or serve. To be a good candidate, a person needs to BE there. Be there for the questions, the reporters, for the voters. Between working full-time, going to college part-time, and tending to my family, I would not be effective.
2) I just moved here. Who wants to vote for a newcomer?
3) I need to listen first. Find out what the community needs and what it wants. To do reasearch so I know what the heck I am talking about.
4) I need to become involved in the community. To become a credible candidate, one needs to know people and know how to get things done.
5) Even though I've had people tell me they'd vote for me just by looking at me (of course it is nice to actually meet those you do vote for), I refuse to rely on just looks. Voters deserve more than that.
One very interesting candidate I will be watching is our very own Libertarian candidate for mayor of Charlotte, Carlton L. Harvey, who I just met Thursday night. From what I've seen is that he is a very colorful character, in more ways than one. ~Jennifer
