Collaboration Tool

Start-up brings glitch wiki to IT pros. Splunk believes tech administrators deserve a Wikipedia equivalent for tracking system data center errors and events. [CNET News.com]
Also, Socialtext seems like a help for IT project teams. It would avoid problems with overflowing emails from large attachments, as well as version control problem.

Tangentially Related to Government

Over at a speaker's bureau Greater Talent, I watched a short clip of Neil Gaiman answering a question about the censorship position contrast between the US and UK. Because the two countries have similar cultures and legal histories, it's easy to forget that the UK has no US Constitution First Amendment that guarantees freedom of speech. Interesting? We need more gatherings where people talk about ideas.
On another subject, Neil Gaiman blogs at http://www.neilgaiman.com/journal/

Beyond April Fools Day

Take me out to the laptop. Also: Student protests echo the '60s, but with high-tech buzz. [CNET News.com]

High tech means to organize citizens

According to a recent LA Times article, some recent Southern California immigration protests used myspace to organize. Outside of young adults I hear, I encountered mostly negative attitudes among my colleagues about myspace. The LA Times article included:

Using modern technology [~] mostly their communal pages on the enormously popular MySpace website [~] they pulled off an event with surprising speed and dexterity. Planned in mere hours on little sleep, lacking any formal organization, the protests were chaotic and decentralized and organic.

They were also a reminder that there are more than 35 million Latinos in the United States, about 40% of them in California. At least 8 million are in the country illegally. But many of their children [~] including many of the student leaders [~] are citizens by birth. And they represent a voting bloc that could help shape the politics of the West for years to come.

That's a significant influence on California especially.
