Wealth Gap Widens Online.

eMarketer: Affluence Online

Harris Interactive reports that as of the beginning of 2003, there are 140 million people online in the US, representing 67% of all adults in the country. Harris notes that 60% of adults in the US were online in 2000. Harris bases its findings on a Harris Poll conducted between November and December 2002 among 2,000 adults and also notes that 57% of adults in the US are online at home, 28% are online at work and 18% are online from another location.

In terms of annual household income of these internet users, Harris reports that just 19% of adults online in the US come from households making $25,000 per year or less, whereas 41% come from households with annual income totaling $50,001 or over.
