An Open Pottery Project -

Awhile back we took a look at those funny or fanciful labels folks put on pots.  I'm thinking of little jars with "Fairy Dust", "Retirement Fund", "Old Jokes".  These bring a light hearted notion to those jars with their textual meaning.

Labels can also be miniture works of art in themselves.  Examples would include:  Cigar Labels, Fruit Boxes, Beer, Records, etc...  These are, naturally enough, made of paper.  They can feature all sorts of paper, line, and color.

If we take the art approach to the label for ceramic containers, I think we could come up with some really interesting pieces.

To take advantage of the a paper label would require one to attach it in some fashion to the pot.  This also means that the label can be developed separately and opens up the possibility for more than one person to contiribute to a piece.

If the label and method of attachment were standardized, one might invision an entire community of clay and paper artists/designers/collectors swapping materials.
