EduResources Weblog--Higher Education Resources Online
This weblog focuses on locating, evaluating, discussing, and providing guidelines to instructional resources for faculty and students in higher education. The emphasis is on free, shared, HE resources. Related topics and news (about commercial resources, K-12 resources, T&D resources, educational technology, digital libraries, distance learning, open source software, metadata standards, cognitive mapping, etc.) will also be discussed--along with occasional excursions into more distant miscellaneous topics in science, computing, and education. The EduResources Weblog operates in conjunction with a broader weblog called The Open Learner about using open knowledge resources across a diversity of subjects, levels, and interests for a wide range of learners and learning communities--students in schools and colleges, home schoolers, hobbyists, vocational learners, retirees, and others.

I've been learning about many new worldwide projects related to open educational resources (OER) through the UNESCO conference. (And also gaining new perspectives on familiar projects such as FOSS and MIT's OCW.) Here's one very interesting project and site in Pakistan described by Fouad Riaz Bajwa . ______JH

________

We have all definitely benefited from the first session of the Internet Discussions. As we move in to the second round, I would like to introduce a small initiative in Pakistan being introduced by FOSSFP: Free and Open Source Software Foundation of Pakistan, in South Asia that intends to deliver University Level Curriculum in open content to the far off rural areas of the country and in South Asia. IIIKM-International Institute of Innovation and Knowledge Management http://www.iiikm.edu.pk. IIIKM will help delivery open content based eLearning access with a special focus on gender (Women and Youth) that cannot leave their homes to attend the large university offerings as in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. The curriculum being presented in the initiative is similar to the curriculum being taught in the premier universities of Pakistan. The learning aids to this initiative also include the MIT Courseware and other sources of open content knowledge. IIIKM can be a model/pilot online institute for these discussions where we can bring knowledge and professional experiences in establishing a strong Open Content eLearning Environment. Global acceptance of the curriculum being offered through IIIKM can be recognized/accredited at various levels thus authenticating the quality of content be delivered and future employment opportunities for the stakeholder students. FOSSFP encourages the global community to join hands with us in making IIIKM a success and an opportunity to share knowledge and network together to make this initiative from a developing country a successful open content eLearning example for others to follow and build upon.

Regards.
