Texas Jury Sides with Blackboard This link contains InsideHigherEd's brief report on the jury decision about Blackboard's lawsuit against Desire2Learn. I hope that this decision will be reversed on appeal because, in my view, Blackboard's patent claims are unjustified. (Essentially Blackboard claims to have invented learning course management tools that have been well established for decades.) The best protest move related to this decision would be for institutions that are using Blackboard to switch to Desire2Learn, or to open source LMSs such as Moodle or Sakai. ____JH _____ Blackboard's President and CEO Michael Chasen commented that the company is, "pleased that the jury recognized the importance of our contribution to e-Learning.
