Kaydara's FBX for QuickTime component enables QuickTime to become a 3D viewing system, able to read, manipulate and play back real-time 3D animation , video, and audio content through Kaydara's FBX format.

FBX files can be created from all major 3D packages, including:

  • Alias Maya
  • Softimage 3D/XSI
  • Newtek Lightwave 3D
  • Discreet 3D Studio Max
  • Kaydara MotionBuilder
  • Expression Tools Shade R6
  • 2D3 Boujou
  • Maxon Cinema 4
  • ElectricImage Universe 4

FBX for QuickTime provides QuickTime users with access to the three key types of 3D data:

1. Model Data - The FBX format provides QuickTime with the ability to read content from any of the major 3D package, as well as the terabytes of existing legacy data which can be viewed and animated.

2. Character Data - Using FBX, characters can easily be imported and viewed. Since FBX includes support for IK, envelopes, and deformations, high-quality, fully animated characters may easily be transferred and played back.

3. Motion Data - Libraries of motion can also be transferred directly with characters, providing simple viewing of animation sequences and performances.

In addition to integrating the various 3D elements, FBX for QuickTime also extends the QuickTime viewer to allow user interaction with the 3D environment, including "triggering" pre-set animations on the character. In this sense, users are able to "play" character animations using the keyboard, providing a truly interactive delivery platform for 3D data.

Loading
To load an FBX file into QuickTime, select "file->open" from the QuickTime player menu. FBX files automatically appear as movies inside the QuickTime open dialog.
