'Delay TV', the new channel venture between NOB and KPN, will allow all streaming media material currently available on the Dutch broadcasting portal omroep.nl to be viewed in DVD quality.
The broadcasting facilitator will work together with KPN to connect the first household in the area around Eindhoven.
The Dutch telecommunications operator KPN has so far connected 500 households with fibreglass connections. Around 60 households have already signed up for the new connection, providing them with a 10Mbit/s connection and allowing access to various broadband services. The subscription costs E84 per month, but the first year is subsidised with E25 per month from the government.
The rollout of DSL technologies and networks, however, is still the primary incentive for the extension of broadband services and infrastructure for KPN.
At this moment, 350,000 households are connected via DSL, a number that is expected to rise to 600,000 by the end of the year. A decision over the rollout of Very High Speed DSL (VDSL providing up to 20Mbit/s has not been made yet.
