Book Review
I have come across this review by the self styled "PHP Traveller" of my book. On the whole the reviews have been great, this review is fair and critical.
Of the points he makes.
- why use PHP in windows when ASP is better?
- The book should be longer
- Why use WDDX
- Strange statements
I think its best that an author can address his/her critics so I'll address these comments here.
- PHP is just as capable on the Windows platform as ASP, the purpose of the book was to show why and how.
- The book could have been longer but then what would have the book been, a book on PHP (500 pages) or a book on Windows (500) pages. I choose a short and sweet approach that gave a developer the knowlege they need. You can also choose your angle (as the book states) if your a windows developer then read the first half, a PHP developer the second half and if you want to learn them both read the whole book.
- WDDX is in use today just as XML-RPC and SOAP is, why should I ignore that fact.
- One statement that was pointed out was the use of binary date in session statements, sessions can carry binary data (normal or not) so the implications should be made clear.
